With around 10,000 inhabitants, Fort William is a major tourist centre. It has Glen Coe to the south, Aonach Mòr to the east and Glenfinnan to the west, and sits on the Road to the Isles.
The town is a centre for hillwalking and climbing due to its proximity to Ben Nevis and many other Munro mountains. It is also known for its nearby downhill mountain bike track.
As well as being at one end of the West Highland Way, Fort William sits on the Great Glen Way (a walking and cycling route between there and Inverness).
